A/H1N1 flu cases rise to 42 in Malaysia 21 June 2009

Malaysia confirmed seven new A/H1N1 flu cases Saturday morning, bringing the country's total number to 42.

The Malaysian Health Ministry said a locally transmitted case was among the seven latest cases, but did not disclose more details. An 11-year-old local girl from a school in Kuala Lumpur was also among the new infected patients, according to the ministry. The girl had just returned home after a holiday trip to Melbourne with her grandmother who had been confirmed as the 30th case in the country on Friday. The girl went to school the following day, resulting in the home quarantine of her classmates.
Malaysian Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai told reporters at his ministry on Saturday that the Malaysian health authorities were checking if students from other classes and teachers had close contact with the girl. The Malaysian Health Ministry Friday announced eight more A/H1N1 flu cases in the country, but all were imported cases, including four people arriving here from Melbourne, Australia.

INFLUENZA A H1N1: Malaysia records 12th case 14 June 2009

The latest victim is a 19-year-old student from a private institution of higher learning in Malaysia who was on holiday in Melbourne, Australia for 17 days from May 24.

Director-general of health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the student returned to Malaysia with three of his friends on flight MH148 which arrived at the KL International Airport (KLIA) at 9.21pm on June 10. “He was seated at 36F and his friends were seated in the same row,” he said in a statement here.

Dr Ismail said the student had no fever at the KLIA and had dropped by his friend’s house in Ampang before returning to his father’s house in Kuala Lumpur.

He had lunch with his mother at a shopping complex on June 11. He had fever then but later went around Kuala Lumpur with his friends.

Dr Ismail said the student sought treatment at the Universiti Medical Centre at 3pm yesterday and was immediately referred to the isolation ward of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 5.30pm and confirmed to be infected with the disease this morning.

“Investigation showed that he started having a sore throat and nasal block on June 9. He was stable then and was given antiviral treatment.”

He said the student’s parents who did not live together had been placed under home quarantine.

Malaysia confirms 7th case of H1N1 Flu 06 June 2009

Malaysia confirmed another case of influenza A(H1N1) on Saturday – a 15-year-old Australian tourist, bringing the country’s total to seven. The Australian girl arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Friday with her mother and was hospitalized with a fever, which was detected by an airport scanner, said the Health Ministry’s disease control director Hasan Abdul Rahman.

The mother showed no symptoms but has been quarantined as a precaution, he said. The patient was in stable condition, he said.

Authorities have urged passengers on the flight to report to the hospital, he said. The World Health Organization says the disease has reached 69 countries and infected more than 22,000 people, causing 125 deaths. –AP

The Kudat Riviera 24 May 2009

The Kudat Riviera  The Kudat Riviera open in Sabah

Sabah is well-known as a destination where people can rough it out. A gruelling climb to the peak of Mount Kinabalu. A wild white water rafting adventure down Padas River. A trek into the wild unknown of the Lost World of Sabah, the Danum Valley.

But then, there is a softer side of Sabah, too. Where one can laze around forever on a private cove, with a personal butler ever-happy to serve. Where exquisite villas are built as private nests, tucked away from public eye. Where one can retreat into utter seclusion and commune with nature.
